Softek Solutions, Inc., a medical software manufacturer outside Kansas City, has signed an agreement with Henry Ford Health System for radiologists and clinicians at the Michigan hospital network to use Softek Illuminate. Illuminate expands the Philips iSite PACS from a traditional data storage system to an information retrieval and messaging system.
Founded in 1915 by the famed automobile pioneer, Henry Ford Health System’s seven hospitals and 27 outpatient medical centers now serve all of southeast Michigan. In December, the health system won the National Health System Patient Safety Leadership Award from the VHA Foundation and National Business Group on Health. Its flagship facility is the 903-bed tertiary care, education and research complex, Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. In recent months, the hospital has been named one of the top hospitals in America by U.S. News and World Report, one of the top 100 hospitals for cardiovascular care by Thomas Reuters and one of the top 100 hospitals to work for by Nursing Professionals magazine.
“We’re excited that a forward-thinking hospital like Henry Ford has seen the value Illuminate will bring to their radiologists and the patients they serve,” said Softek CEO Matt McLenon. Henry Ford’s 80 radiologists now have access to information in iSite that otherwise would be virtually trapped, he added, and they can retrieve it in a time frame that allows them to affect the clinical decision process as well as analyze trends and workflow.
“We are looking forward to the many ways Illuminate will help us improve patient care,” said Safwan Halabi, M.D., senior staff radiologist and director of imaging informatics at Henry Ford. “We now have Alerts to follow up with clinicians on patients as well as data-mining available from every PACS workstation.” All radiologists will be able to look back at any previous study not only for their own benefit but also to answer the many research requests from referring clinicians, Dr. Halabi added.
